9. Spot-Treat Sticky Residue with Rubbing Alcohol
Tape marks, holiday decal residue, hairspray overspray on bathroom mirrors, and greasy palm prints often resist water-based cleaners entirely.
Keep a bottle of 70 percent isopropyl rubbing alcohol nearby for spot treatments. Pour a small amount directly onto a cotton round or microfiber corner and rub the spot using gentle circular motions. Alcohol breaks down waxes, adhesive polymers, and resinous hairsprays instantly, evaporating within seconds without leaving a trace of film behind.
10. Clean the Inside and Outside in Different Directions
When you step back to inspect your clean windows and spot a faint streak, it can be infuriating to figure out whether the line is on the inside or outside of the pane.
Solve this problem with a simple directional trick:
-
Wipe all interior glass surfaces using exclusively horizontal (left-to-right) strokes.
-
Wipe all exterior glass surfaces using exclusively vertical (up-and-down) strokes.
If a stray line catches the light when you are finished, its direction tells you instantly which side of the glass needs a quick touch-up with your dry buffing cloth.
